Grand Avenue Temple UMC | 205 E 9th St Kansas City, MO 64106 | 816.842.3484
At Grand Avenue Temple United Methodist Church, you’ll find that you have walked into a little slice of heaven. Be ready to experience worship and fellowship among a community of people of different cultures, races, and socio-economic standings; all humbly bringing their
needs, gifts and talents to lay at the feet of Christ.
Our own Rev. Dr. Tex Sample describes what you can expect from your worship experience at Grand Avenue Temple:
If you want a church made up exclusively of affluent white people.. if you want to worship in a place where you will feel comfortable and not challenged by the people around you… if you want a congregation where bourgeois manners and etiquette are closely followed… if you want a community where everyone looks like you, thinks like you, and feels like you…
THEN GRAND AVENUE TEMPLE IS NOT FOR YOU.
On the other hand, if you want an assembly where your needs will not only be met, but will be changed forever… if you want a church where you will meet Christ in people who are hungry, thirsty, ill, or recently out of
prison, people who are homeless, people who need a job, people who need a second chance… if you want a church that is multi-racial with people who are affluent and poor, who are working class and professional, who are seeking to be faithful and to serve… if you want a congregation committed to live without walls…
THEN GIVE GRAND AVENUE TEMPLE A TRY.
We invite you to join us in worship and the celebration of Christ each and every Sunday at 10 am.
Help Keep the Music Alive
A historic piece of Grand Avenue Temple is in crisis. The church’s organ, 3500-pipe Opus 190 that has been a part of our worship for more than 100 years, was recently damaged by fire. As explained on a recent KCTV5 news segment, to repair this historic instrument will cost more than $30,000, a significant investment for a church that serves the houseless population of Kansas City.
